Thunderous Home Theater Goes Quiet

An email we received on
November 9, 2007:

“I recently completed a basement home theater project using several of your products. Except for the outside below ground foundation walls, all the walls had 525 on both sides and were double-studded or stagger studded with conventional R19 bat insulation. The ceiling was also 525 with 1” foam acoustic panels. We used QuietSeal and QuietPutty all around. The results have been outstanding. Even with the sound at thunderous levels, I can’t hear a thing in my office, which is 40’ away and has no door. The master bedroom is directly above the theater and at the same sound level, I could just hear quiet murmurings. My son-in-law, who’s an experienced builder but not a drywall guy, and an inexperienced helper did the installation. Neither had had any experience with QuietRock. I couldn’t be more pleased with the performance of your products.”

Soundproofing Tip:
Seal Air Leaks for Best Results

Even with QuietRock and QuietWood, you’ll get best results by avoiding air leaks – or finding and sealing them.  Even a small gap along part of your wall perimeter, for example, could reduce your STC rating by a few points or more.  Always use QuietSeal around wall perimeters and QuietPutty around outlets to stop leaks.  Our QuietRock and QuietSeal installation notes give you tips on best methods.
