QuietRock uses an approach called ‘constrained layer damping’ to reduce noise 70% or more. Thin wall panels surround (or constrain) a layer of viscoelastic polymers developed here at Quiet Solution. These polymers (our ‘special sauce’) convert acoustic energy into tiny amounts of heat energy, which we can’t hear. Because the science is ‘built in’, QuietRock’s noise reduction is more reliable than other soundproofing. Constrained layer damping provides several times the effectiveness of ‘mass law’, which basically requires that you double the weight of the entire wall assembly to gain just a few points improvement – and double it again for a few more points.
We use different combinations of panel material and polymers to make QuietRock ‘systems’ that are specialized for different uses, such as steel or wood studs, mold-resistance, etc. We’re now on our sixth generation of polymers, and continuously test dozens of possible improvements. We now have one issued patent and 22 pending for our technology.
