Kevin Surace – President & CEO Mr. Surace, a noted speaker and writer on climate change and the built environment, is on a mission to significantly reduce the use of fossil fuels and their effect on the environment. As CEO of Quiet Solution, Kevin leads the company in its mission to reduce energy usage and CO2 generation of the world’s largest contributor, our buildings. By developing new materials and processes that require little energy to manufacture, and advanced products which dramatically improve the insulation and comfort of homes and offices, a worst-case climate and energy catastrophe can be avoided.
Before joining Quiet Solution in 2002, Mr. Surace held executive and technical positions with Perfect Commerce, General Magic, Air Communications, National Semiconductor, and Seiko-Epson. He received his degree in electrical engineering technology from Rochester Institute of Technology where he currently serves on the Board of Trustees, and has been awarded multiple patents. Mr. Surace also serves on the boards of FreeLight, Array Converter, Zeta Communities, and Integrity Block; chairs the Sunnyvale Mayoral Green Ribbon Committee; and co-chaired the CCTO Building Materials contest.

Patrick Murray – Chief Financial Officer Mr. Murray brings over 23 years of financial and senior management experience to Quiet Solution. Most recently, Mr. Murray was CFO of WhereNet Corp., a worldwide leader of active radio frequency identification (RFID) based solutions to track and manage enterprise assets. Prior to WhereNet, Mr. Murray spent six years as the Director of Finance and Administration of Maxim Integrated Products, where he was responsible for scaling their worldwide finance and administration organization during a period of significant growth ($300M to $4.5 billion market cap). Prior to that, Mr. Murray was Senior Manager at Ernst and Young where he served as an executive team member for various high technology clients, including Symantec, Tandem Computers and Advanced Micro Devices. Mr. Murray is a Certified Public Accountant and has a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Washington State University.

Brandon Tinianov – Chief Technology Officer Dr. Tinianov is a recognized expert in building science and the creation of novel construction materials. Prior to joining Quiet Solution, he worked at Johns Manville Corporation where he managed the Building Sciences and Engineering Applications Center of Excellence. His areas of focus include noise and vibration control and energy management. Dr. Tinianov is a registered Professional Engineer, a LEED Accredited Professional, and an INCE Board Certified Noise Control Expert. He is active with the Acoustical Society of America (ASA), as chairman of the Technical Committee on Architectural Acoustics (TCAA) and is a member of their College of Fellows. He is an active member of the US Green Building Council (USGBC), the Green Building Initiative (GBI) and Sustainable Silicon Valley (SSV). He is a former Board Member of the Institute of Noise Control Engineers (INCE) and their current Standards Committee chairman, a past Executive Officer of American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM), and a “designated expert” on various ISO and ANSI working groups. Dr. Tinianov has eight issued patents and more than twenty pending applications. He has a Ph.D. in Engineering Systems from the Colorado School of Mines; a M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering, University of Texas; and a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from Tulane University.

Sandra Vaughan – Chief Marketing Officer Ms. Vaughan brings to Serious Materials over 20 years of experience driving marketing innovation for leading technology brands. As Chief Marketing Officer for Serious Materials, Ms. Vaughan is responsible for developing the marketing strategy and delivering world class results.
Prior to joining Serious Materials, Ms. Vaughan was Senior Vice President of Marketing and Products for Proofpoint, Inc., where she drove massive growth and successfully transformed the company from an early stage venture to a global leader. Previously, Ms. Vaughan was Senior Vice President of Marketing for BroadVision, Inc., where she was a key member of the executive team that drove a successful public offering and grew the company from $2 million to more than $400 million in five years. Ms. Vaughan has also held leadership positions in sales and marketing for Sybase and Oracle Corporation. Ms. Vaughan earned her Bachelor of Science degree from University of California, Davis.

Albert Yanez – Vice President, Operations Mr. Yanez is a silicon valley veteran bringing over 25 years of equipment engineering, manufacturing engineering, and operations management experience to the company. Previously, Mr. Yanez held several positions such as Plant Operations Manager & Program Management of New Plants and capacity expansion projects for Monierlifetile were he built the latest state of the art facility with the highest throughput and lowest cost of manufacturing. Monierlifetile is the largest concrete roof tile manufacturer in the world. Prior to Monierlifetile, he was Plant Operations Manager of Southwall Technologies, turning that operation profitable and stable enough to be transferred to Dresden, Germany. Mr. Yanez also served as Director of Manufacturing & Process engineering for Manufacturers Services, Inc. were he streamlined operations for Hewlett Packards Laser Jet & Plotter manufacturing divisions, 3 Com Modems and the manufacturing of Palm Pilots. Mr. Yanez also held senior management positions at Western Digital Corp. were he converted there nickel plating operations to state of the art thin film deposition lines and rebuilt their factories from the ground up to Class 10 clean room technologies for high volume disk drive manufacturing. He was part of the team that founded Trimedia which became Hitachi Metals Trimedia and was a successful IPO.

Mark Mitchell – Chief Operating Officer Mr. Mitchell brings over 20 years of operating and business development experience in technology, energy, services and legal industries. A serial entrepreneur, he has founded and run a number of companies in the Silicon Valley. Mr. Mitchell led the management teams at: Intematix (global leader in next-generation electronic materials development, including solid state lighting solutions and energy storage/clean energy materials technologies), First to File (enterprise class IP management services used by Global 1000 companies), Law.com (leading provider of legal content and industry specific software services) and eMeter (the industry leading provider of enterprise-scale energy information management solutions to utilities worldwide). Mr. Mitchell is a co-founder of eMeter and played a key role in developing its plan and strategy for enabling real time energy efficiency and sustainability alternatives. Mr. Mitchell earlier spent ten years working as an attorney in private practice primarily as strategic corporate counsel. He has a Bachelor of Arts from the University of the Pacific, a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of California, and a Masters from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business as a distinguished Sloan Fellow.

Robin Roy – Vice President, Projects & Policy Dr. Roy has been motivated for over two decades by society’s aspirations for secure, economic, and environmentally sound energy. He delights in developing the nexus between the practicalities of effective public policy, the capabilities of new and emerging business, and the opportunity created by technological and institutional innovation. Prior to joining Serious Materials, he co-founded Next Energy, a Sydney-based adviser to government, industry and environmental organizations on energy policy and strategy, often delivering on that advice with operational and project management services. Examples of innovative successes include an ongoing, multi-jurisdictional program for local governments to improve street lighting, now representing over 225,000 lights; a four year program to collect and recycle tens of thousands of highly inefficient second refrigerators; and successful advice to a state government on economic alternatives to developing a relatively high emissions new coal power plant. Robin was formerly Project Director & Fellow at the United States Congress Office of Technology Assessment where he advised the Congress on competition in the electricity market, energy efficiency initiatives in the federal government and housing sectors, vulnerability of electricity systems to terrorism and natural disaster, and nuclear industry issues. Prior to that, he was with the Pacific Gas and Electric Company in their demand management and strategic planning groups. Dr Roy received a Ph.D. - Civil Engineering, MS - Engineering-Economic Systems and BS - Electrical Engineering from Stanford University.

Ian Sullivan, Vice President and General Manager, Serious Windows Ian Sullivan brings 20 years of global high-technology industry and management consulting experience to Serious Materials. Most recently, Mr. Sullivan was COO of Provade, a leading supply chain management software and services company. Prior to Provade, Mr. Sullivan was EVP of Sales, Marketing, and Business Development for Perfect Commerce where he led a series of M&A transactions and negotiated channel agreements with Oracle and SAP. Before Perfect, Mr. Sullivan was VP Operations for Outpurchase, an outsourced procurement business for the SMB market. Mr. Sullivan was a co-founder in network storage startup Ridge Technologies that was sold 14 months after inception, and has held senior management positions at KPMG and A.T. Kearney. He began his career at Sun Microsystems where he managed supply chain strategy and outsourcing initiatives in the U.S., Europe and Asia. Mr. Sullivan holds an MBA from Santa Clara University and a BA in Economics from Colgate University.

Daniel E. Boss, Ph. D. – Vice President, Engineering Dr. Boss, an accomplished R&D executive adept in developing and launching commercially and technically successful products, he brings over 20 years experience to Serious Materials. An expert at creating and combining new technologies with innovative business development strategies, Dr. Boss heads up all product development, including windows and doors.
Prior to joining Serious Materials, Dr. Boss was in charge of new technology platforms for U.S. Gypsum Corporation, leading a portfolio creation of platform technologies with a total potential market of over $5.5 billion. Prior to that, Dr. Boss spent 6 years with Material Science Corporation (MSC) most recently as the Director of the Solutions Engineering / Engineered Materials and Solutions Group. During this time, he developed advanced noise and damping products and laminated products for military and commercial customers.
Dr. Boss earned his Bachelor of Science degree from USC, Masters of Science from UCLA and his Ph.D. from Northwestern University. He also currently holds four patents with seven pending.
