Kevin Surace

Kevin Surace – President & CEO
Mr. Surace is a strong advocate on addressing climate change through advances in energy conservation in the built environment. At Serious, he has advanced material science in building materials, leading the development of super-insulating windows and the first zero CO2 drywall process, and bringing quiet to dense urban development. He is a sought-after speaker at conferences speaking on worst case climate change and addressing CO2 through advances in the built environment.

Prior to joining Serious Materials in 2002, Mr. Surace was CEO of Perfect Commerce, a leading enterprise supply management software company. Prior to Perfect, he was EVP at General Magic where he built the world's largest internet/telephony operations center, serving 3 million users and developing services for partners including General Motors OnStar. Mr. Surace previously served as CEO of Air Communications and WebKnight, and has additional experience with National Semiconductor and Seiko-Epson. He received his degree in Electrical Engineering Technology from Rochester Institute of Technology and has been awarded multiple patents. Mr. Surace also serves on the boards of Cleantech companies FreeLight, ArrayConverter, Zeta Homes and Integrity Block.
 

 

Patrick Murray

Patrick Murray – Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Murray brings over 23 years of financial and senior management experience to Quiet Solution. Most recently, Mr. Murray was CFO of WhereNet Corp., a worldwide leader of active radio frequency identification (RFID) based solutions to track and manage enterprise assets. Prior to WhereNet, Mr. Murray spent six years as the Director of Finance and Administration of Maxim Integrated Products, where he was responsible for scaling their worldwide finance and administration organization during a period of significant growth ($300M to $4.5 billion market cap). Prior to that, Mr. Murray was Senior Manager at Ernst and Young where he served as an executive team member for various high technology clients, including Symantec, Tandem Computers and Advanced Micro Devices. Mr. Murray is a Certified Public Accountant and has a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Washington State University.

 

Brandon Tinianov

Brandon Tinianov – Chief Technology Officer
Dr. Tinianov is a recognized expert in building science and the creation of novel construction materials.  Prior to joining Quiet Solution, he worked at Johns Manville Corporation where he managed the Building Sciences and Engineering Applications Center of Excellence. His areas of focus include noise and vibration control and energy management.  Dr. Tinianov is a registered Professional Engineer, a LEED Accredited Professional, and an INCE Board Certified Noise Control Expert. He is active with the Acoustical Society of America (ASA), as chairman of the Technical Committee on Architectural Acoustics (TCAA) and is a member of their College of Fellows. He is an active member of the US Green Building Council (USGBC), the Green Building Initiative (GBI) and Sustainable Silicon Valley (SSV). He is a former Board Member of the Institute of Noise Control Engineers (INCE) and their current Standards Committee chairman, a past Executive Officer of American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM), and a “designated expert” on various ISO and ANSI working groups. Dr. Tinianov has eight issued patents and more than twenty pending applications.  He has a Ph.D. in Engineering Systems from the Colorado School of Mines; a M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering, University of Texas; and a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from Tulane University.

 

Steve Weiss

Steve Weiss VP Marketing
Mr. Weiss brings over 25 years of high-tech marketing and senior management experience to Quiet Solution. He is thrilled every day to have the chance to work with innovative products that improve customers’ quality of life and support sustainable development. He joined the company in 2006, after having worked successfully with Kevin multiple times over the previous ten years. Previously, he was VP Marketing at Weathernews Americas, where he helped create a video broadcast network for cellphones in concert with 83 TV stations. Prior to that, he worked with Kevin at CommerceNet as VP, New Business, to incubate, manage and fund startups. For 10 years, he ran Grey Heron, a consulting firm, where he helped build and grow startups including Supplybase (acquired by i2 for $400M), Extensity (public $2B valuation), and 800.COM, with a focus on strategy, marketing, fund-raising and interim executive work. During that time, he worked with Kevin to refocus General Magic on voice services, and to sell Kevin’s company, WebKnight. His early experience includes IBM, HP, Ingres (CA), Neuron Data (Fair Isaac) and Central Point (Symantec). He holds Masters and Bachelors degrees in Computer Science from MIT.

Pam Preston

Pam Preston – VP Sales
Ms. Preston joined the company in 2004 with 25 years of high tech experience leading sales, engineering and customer service organizations and building business relationships with Fortune 500 companies. Prior to joining Quiet Solution, Ms. Preston was Executive Director of Sales at Jazz Semiconductor where she led the company through the transition from a captive foundry to a pure play wafer foundry, increased market share of the advanced SiGe, BICMOS, HVCMOS and Mixed Signal technologies, and helped position the company for IPO. Before joining Jazz she served as Executive Director, North America Sales for Dongbu Electronics where she contributed significantly to building a world class sales, marketing, engineering and customer service organization and the strategic development of BiCMOS and Mixed Signal technologies for the wireless communications market. Prior to Dongbu, she was the Executive Director of Worldwide Sales for Chartered Semiconductor where she was instrumental in taking the company from a start-up to the world’s top 2 rated pure play semiconductor wafer foundry. Earlier, Ms. Preston served in a number of senior management positions for 14 years at S-MOS Systems, a US affiliate of Seiko Epson Corporation, where her last position was Director, Sales and Engineering.

 

 

Albert Yanez

Albert Yanez – Vice President, Operations
Mr. Yanez brings 30 years of high-tech manufacturing and management experience to Quiet Solution. Previously, he was director of the project management organization at Monierlifetile, where he was responsible for budget management for $250M of capital expansion projects, and to build six turnkey concrete manufacturing plants in three years. He also had P&L responsibility for $35M along with management of their largest facility, including 140 employees. Earlier roles include plant manager at Southwall Technologies with a $50M P&L and director of process and manufacturing engineering at Manufacturers Services Ltd., a large EMS contract manufacturer. Mr. Yanez has degrees in Mechanical Engineering from California Polytechnic, in Electronics from Heald College and in Engineering Management from San Francisco State University, plus a PMP certification from Stanford.

 

Mark Mitchell

Mark Mitchell – Vice President, Business Development
Mr. Mitchell brings over 20 years of operating and business development experience in technology, energy, services and legal industries. A serial entrepreneur, he has founded and run a number of companies in the Silicon Valley. Mr. Mitchell led the management teams at: Intematix (global leader in next-generation electronic materials development, including solid state lighting solutions and energy storage/clean energy materials technologies), First to File (enterprise class IP management services used by Global 1000 companies), Law.com (leading provider of legal content and industry specific software services) and eMeter (the industry leading provider of enterprise-scale energy information management solutions to utilities worldwide). Mr. Mitchell is a
co-founder of eMeter and played a key role in developing its plan and strategy for enabling real time energy efficiency and sustainability alternatives. 
Mr. Mitchell earlier spent ten years working as an attorney in private practice primarily as strategic corporate counsel. He has a Bachelor of Arts from the University of the Pacific, a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of California, and a Masters from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business as a distinguished Sloan Fellow.

 

Ian_Sullivan

Ian Sullivan, Vice President and General Manager, ThermaProof and Quiet Windows
Ian Sullivan brings 20 years of global high-technology industry and management consulting experience to Serious Materials. Most recently, Mr. Sullivan was COO of Provade, a leading supply chain management software and services company. Prior to Provade, Mr. Sullivan was EVP of Sales, Marketing, and Business Development for Perfect Commerce where he led a series of M&A transactions and negotiated channel agreements with Oracle and SAP. Before Perfect, Mr. Sullivan was VP Operations for Outpurchase, an outsourced procurement business for the SMB market. Mr. Sullivan was a co-founder in network storage startup Ridge Technologies that was sold 14 months after inception, and has held senior management positions at KPMG and A.T. Kearney. He began his career at Sun Microsystems where he managed supply chain strategy and outsourcing initiatives in the U.S., Europe and Asia. Mr. Sullivan holds an MBA from Santa Clara University and a BA in Economics from Colgate University.
