Noise in the military can be a life-threatening problem. Military equipment isn’t built for luxury – it is built for fighting. But the individual soldier, sailor, airman or marine is still a human being, subject to all the stress, strain, irritability and mistakes caused by unwanted noise. Military equipment can also be exceptionally sensitive to weight penalties, e.g. aircraft. Anything that can reduce the weight of a piece of equipment adds to its durability and fuel economy (range).

Land: Soldiers roll into battle inside massively noisy convoys of Humvees, armored personnel carriers – all noisy assets. A well-known US Army study demonstrated that soldiers subject to noisy environments make are slow at targeting, target incorrectly, make mistakes up to 4X as much as soldiers in quiet environments.

Sea: Sailors and marines spend days, weeks and months on ships. Noise is a huge factor in their comfort, attentiveness and battle-readiness. A tired sailor is a dangerous sailor – to himself, the crew and the mission.

Air: Airmen and women have to endure noisy cabins and cockpits, Yet they have to be sharp, battle-ready, often making decisions in a split second. Noise is a hostile environment for making such decisions. Fatigue causes errors; and errors kill.

Damping noise and vibration has traditionally been costly and risky – until now. Quiet Solution offers the military a complete line of high-performance products to soundproof all types of land, sea and air vehicles and the associated buildings and machinery. Using a new generation of viscoelastic polymers, it is now possible to achieve luxury levels of quiet with a fraction of the bulk, weight and cost of traditional technologies.

The most effective way to mitigate interior noise and vibration is to coat as much of the vehicle as possible with the appropriate viscoelastic polymer.
