About Us - Philosophy

Vision
Our vision is to enable the creation of quiet places and things using advanced building products and technologies. We are committed to helping our customers (and their customers) create environments that are more tranquil, valuable and economically efficient. Our vision is reflected in the names of our product portfolio, designed to bring Relief, Serenity, Solitude to people everywhere.

Mission
The problem: noise is a major pollutant. It is physically and psychologically harmful.

The mission: design, manufacture and distribute high-performance technologies that radically reduce noise and contribute to well-being in peoples’ lives.

Our company is organized around the mission of bringing quiet to three sectors: Construction; Transportation; and Machinery.

Value Proposition of Quiet
“Quiet” is a profit center, not a cost center. Quiet products and buildings are universally perceived as superior to noisy ones and command higher prices.

“Quiet” is valuable. Consumers pay a premium for quiet. Builders and manufacturers differentiate their products by delivering quiet as a key benefit.

Noise Pollution

The obvious frontiers of environmental pollution were attacked by social policy and the court of public opinion - water pollution, air pollution, food chain pollution, etc. Now the era of a broad-based attack on noise pollution is emerging, and QS is part of that movement.

Huge Problem

Noise-induced health problems have been widely documented in studies conducted by the U.S. government (OSHA, NIOSH, NIH, U.S. Army, Veteran’s Administration etc.), by the European Union, by industry (especially heavy manufacturing, trucking, airlines and health insurance) and in academia. The harm caused by noise includes stress, irritability, mistakes, poor communication, hearing loss, time off etc. The mental health issues are hard to pinpoint, but everyone who has to work in a noisy environment would probably prefer to work in a quiet environment. Consider your own sense of peacefulness when the air conditioner shuts down in your office.

Approximately 30 million workers are exposed to hazardous noise on the job and an additional nine million are at risk for hearing loss from other agents such as solvents and metals. Noise-induced hearing loss is one of the most common occupational diseases and the second most self-reported occupational illness or injury.

Economic Costs

There is no way to quantify how much productivity loss and sick days off can be partly or wholly attributable to noise pollution. If a quiet environment contributes only 2% to productivity and work loss, that would have a direct impact on GNP of 1% - a huge amount of lost economic benefit in a $10 trillion economy. And, as is missing in all GDP calculations, one cannot measure the punishment inflicted by noise that produces symptoms of stress, anxiety and depression. Those numbers are silent in the face of the cacophony of modern life. More interesting would be reports by industrial psychologists on noise-related stress, anxiety and productivity loss; and on injury caused by mental fatigue associated with noise.

Consumer Behavior –Value of Quiet

What is the premium value of buying quiet?

Consumers value quiet. That’s why two dishwashers with identical cubic foot capacity can have a 2X price difference if one is loud and the other quiet; and why two sedans with the same passenger load, horsepower and fuel efficiency can have a 2X price differential if one is noticeably quieter (e.g. Lexus vs. Taurus). The mark of luxury is quiet. Noisy condos, apartments and hotels cannot be rated top-quality.

Industrial Behavior – Production of Quiet

What is the cost of producing quiet?

Companies that appreciate the value of quiet will design it into their homes, products and services that they sell to other businesses, governments and consumers. Appreciation for the value of quiet is growing rapidly. Quiet is becoming a huge differentiator for companies, from luxury builders to manufacturers. They will invest in it because the return on investment is high.
