Announcing New UL-Rated Sound-damped Floor/Ceiling Assembly

QuietHome® UL Rated Floor Ceiling AssemblyOur new QuietHome® floor/ceiling assembly, UL number L591, has an STC rating up to 65 and an IIC rating up to 70. It is particularly good at reducing challenging ‘high heel footfall noise’, with results 20-30dB better than conventional assemblies, and an overall improvement of 5-8 IIC points and 8-9 STC points.

By eliminating the use of poured gypsum concrete, the QuietHome assembly reduces mold risk, schedule risk, and the likelihood of acoustic short-circuits; our assembly is also half the weight, allowing for less material, and simpler, less expensive structural engineering.

QuietRock for Risk Reduction

A wall assembly can be designed to meet an STC target in multiple ways, but fail to deliver those numbers in the field due to acoustic short circuits. For example, the lab STC rating of a double-stud wall should meet building code for a party wall – but what happens if plumbing is run through the wall cavity and the plumbing is strapped to the studs?

Adding QuietRock to an assembly reduces risks for the builder and owner, and delivers a better result. Not only will STC ratings be higher, but if the wall is short-circuited (e.g. the straps example above, or in several ways with RC – click for white paper), the engineering built into QuietRock will still deliver a strong STC rating.
