Our new ThermaRock XI (eXtreme Insulation) is the world’s first wallboard that can reduce energy use and cost.  ThermaRock provides an insulation R-value of up to R 4.1, compared to 0.5 for gypsum drywall.  This substantially reduces heat transfer through un-insulated or insulated exterior walls, and reduces heating and cooling costs up to 30% as a result.  Our models show potential savings of $1,700 per panel over the life of the product. 

The use of high-performance drywall to add insulation uses much less floor space than other approaches, and makes it particularly valuable for retrofits.  It can also be the only practical way to add insulation to masonry or cement walls.  ThermaRock XI allows a much faster, simpler construction process than the alternative of building out an inner wall – which is especially helpful in owner-occupied situations for minimizing disruption, dust and hotel living expenses.
 

Announcing New QuietHome Doors

Our new line of QuietHome Doors provide superior noise reduction in an attractive, stainable wood, pre-hung door package, and are perfect for high-end home theaters, commercial studios, offices and conference rooms.  Unlike most metal acoustic doors, these look like they belong in a high-end home. 

The entry-level QuietHome Door features a very high STC rating of 44 and is only 1¾” thick.  We also offer the world’s first THX®-Certified door with an STC rating of 51 in a 2¼” thick door.  Typical hollow-core doors have an STC rating of only 15 and solid-core doors about 27.  The high performance of QuietHome Doors reduce noise 65-85% compared to a solid core door.

ThermaRock XI delivers its extreme performance by incorporating a ‘blanket’ of space-age aerogel, a low-density, high performance insulating material, into the panel itself.  The product is used like standard drywall.

ThermaRock is available in a gypsum version, for use on wood or steel studs or over existing drywall, and a magnesium oxide version, for use on masonry or CMUs.

The suggested price of QuietHome Doors ranges from $1,495 to $2,495, or about 30% lower than other acoustic doors.  The STC 44 model is available for ordering now through building products dealers and lumberyards nationwide, and online; the THX-Certified door will ship in the first quarter of 2009.

We also make the world’s only THX-Certified soundproof drywall, QuietRock 545THX, with an STC rating of up to 80.  The new QuietHome Doors incorporate Serious’ proprietary viscoelastic polymer-based constrained layer damped system, a multi-layer design and advanced seals throughout the door edge.
