The trend towards larger homes places a premium on soundproofing. Mansions are often spaced more closely, completely filling out a lot. Noisy houses generate complaints and are not easily saleable. Further, with the explosive popularity of home theaters, it is more important than ever to create walls and floor and ceiling construction with STCs in excess of 55 to 60.
Achieving high STC ratings for walls and ceilings has traditionally been too costly and risky – until now. Quiet Solution offers residential construction professionals a complete line of high-performance products to soundproof walls and ceilings. The installation can be easily done either at time of new construction or as a rehab project. Any contractor can install the soundproofing system using standard construction tools and methods. The Do-it-Yourself (DIY) community has discovered that QuietRock and QuietWood present an easy way to achieve high levels of soundproofing.
Using Quiet Solution products, we normally recommend specifying standard construction (rather than staggered or double beam which require more labor, materials and floor space) to achieve high isolation – without the need for failure-prone resilient clips and channels.
The most effective way to mitigate residential noise is to (i) identify and measure the noise source, both internal and external; (ii) set a dB goal for the desired level of quiet, and translate that goal into the appropriate Sound Transmission Class using the formula “dB in noisy area minus dB desired in quiet area = required STC”; (iii) select and specify the appropriate Quiet Solution Soundproofing System materials for your project.
Quiet Solution is a member of NAHB and AWCI.
